Summary

The Coast Salish Gathering is a policy dialogue for Coast Salish Chairs, Chiefs and their Council as well as Federal, State and Provincial Regional Directors and their executive staff only. Reports and video of the proceedings are posted to the website for the public.

The Gathering's purpose is to discuss and develop a shared position report on the health of the Salish Sea ecosystem and the environmental impacts upon the human health and aboriginal and treaty rights to harvest natural resources.
The Coast Salish Gathering provides the opportunity for U.S. tribal leaders and First Nation Chiefs, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Environment Canada to build a collaborative body for mutual understanding to solve the environmental issues facing our shared homelands.

Learning Goals

To learn more about the interconnectivity of the coastal ecosystem and the coastal native americans and how they are collectively working on a local, national and international level to solve common issues around regional coastal issues.

Context for Use

As resource to study the developing strategies for mitigation and adaptation of climate change impacts on the coastal American Indians and the coastal ecosystem upon which they are closely connected.
